Seasons Greetings

As composed by wadster90:

You know Cooler and Cubert,
Brune and OD.
Norpo and Porter,
Freaky and GT.
But do you recall,
The most famous cheeser of all?

Wadster the red-nosed warlock,
ready to go and cheese.
Nightfalls should drop some sweet loot,
Gjallys around if you please!

If Crota is to meet his end,
Cubert needs to leave.
We all need to DPS,
and force him to a knee.

GT wants some armor,
OD needs a helm,
I still want a Mythoclast,
The best in Atheon's realm

Clan night tonight. 9pm PT. X1 Destiny.

Nexus is the strike this week. Void burn for the Nightfall.

I'll be back in town and plan to be on. I do still have guests in town though, so there's a chance I may be delayed. But I don't need to sleep anymore, so should be on at some point, even if not right at 9.

groupme Clan Chat

With the complicated Destiny game mechanics and regular patches that totally change how the game is played, I think we need more real time comms.  Please either register at groupme.com and/or download the app to your phone.  It's a free app that allows group chat threads.  Download links:

Once you get registered, please invite me to chat using gtdroptop@hotmail.com, or click this link to join the group directly.

Tip: The groupme notifications for mobile can get busy.  You can disable these per your personal preference.

Clan night tonight. 9pm PT. X1 Destiny.

Plan for tonight is to run Nightfalls, up to 3 times to cover everybody's characters.  Be sure to join the Xbox Live chat party, because we will be running parallel strikes.  Nightfall and Heroic Weekly this week are level 30 Phogoth with Arc Burn.  Please try your best to NOT go into matches underleveled, because it makes it more difficult and time consuming for everybody involved.  The Bada Bing Best Known Method for Nightfall and Weeklies is to run at max level, and then to switch out to alts at the end as needed for rewards.  e.g., I will be running everything 3 times on my 30 Hunter, but switching to my 29 Warlock on one run, and my 29 Titan on another run.  We would much rather wait 5 minutes while you go to Tower and switch out, instead of spending an extra hour struggling through Nightfall underleveled.  Rough plan for the rest of the week:

  • Tuesday: Nightfalls, weekly Heroic if there is time
  • Wednesday: Crota's End Raid
  • Thursday: TBD Raid - CE or there's a request for Vault of Glass Hard Mode to try and get some Fatebringers
People will start to break off for the holidays starting on Friday, so will have to see who's around to see what we play.

The past couple of weeks have been Arc Burn with lots of Thrall.  The best guns we've seen for these runs have been:

Primaries
  • Fatebringer: One of the best guns in the game for current content.  It's a Legendary hand cannon that does Arc Damage.  That means it gets a damage boost for Arc Burn, gets tons of ammo drops, does 1-shot kills for most trash mobs, and still leaves an Exotic slot open somewhere else.  Can only be earned via RNG drop when killing the Templar in VoG on Hard Mode.
  • Bad Juju: Since the last update, Bad Juju is awesome for Hive missions.  The set of perks allow you to hipfire, in full auto mode, and never have to reload.  You can essentially go Rambo mode on all the thrall and solo the mobs.  Can be obtained by completing the Toland's Legacy exotic bounty.  I recommend everybody in the clan start working that bounty off.
  • Suros Regime: This is a really good choice for the Lamp run at the beginning of Crota's End Raid.  It has the Lightweight perk that can be unlocked for +2 Agility, which is very helpful for running quickly.  It is also effective when firing from the hip (not ADS), which is very helpful for clearing the thrall crowds.  Has been offered by Xur several times, so most of us have one of these.  Doesn't really matter at this point if you ReXurbished it to 331 damage or not, is mainly useful for the +2 Agility and ability to clear low level trash mobs.
  • Vision of Confluence: This is a mediocre choice, but is useful for the Wizards and shielded Shanks that show up in the current maps.  Does Solar damage in the primary slot.  Can only be earned via RNG drop when running VoG in Normal or Hard mode.
Secondaries
  • Murmur: This is one of the best choices in the Secondary slot.  It's earned from the Eris story line, so I believe everybody who is currently actively playing has it.  Can swap between Arc or Solar damage, and is awesome at vaporizing Thrall mobs.  Also has the Lightweight perk for +2 Agility.
  • Ice Breaker: Everybody's favorite unlimited ammo sniper rifle, newly ReXurbished this past weekend.  Good choice for Wizards and providing ranged support at the CE bridge.
Heavies
  • Gjallahorn: "Gooberhorn" is the best rocket launcher in the game, once you unlock the Wolf Pack rounds.  Can currently only be earned via RNG.  So if you don't already have it, don't worry about it.
  • Thunderlord: Exotic arc damage machine gun.  Again, can currently only be earned via RNG.  So if you don't already have it, don't worry about it.
If you don't have these weapons, Arc damage is the best choice.  Preferably Legendary or Exotic max damage 331 variants.  If you don't have that, please chat with the party to see what options are best.  It is always worth it to move your best gear to the character that you are playing on.  We'll wait.

Xursday Considerations

The first post-DLC Xursday is in about 5 hours.  We expect that Xur will have Exotic guns and Exotic upgrades to pre-DLC Exotics.  We also expect Xur to have some Exotic armor.  Here are all the new Exotic armor pieces that come with the DLC:

Name Rarity Class Type Offense
The Glasshouse Exotic 36 Titan Helmet Def: BoL/WoL last longer
The Stag Exotic 36 Warlock Helmet Def: Self-res disorients enemies
ATS/8 Arachnid Exotic 36 Hunter Helmet Off: GG zooms ADS
Starfire Protocol Exotic 36 Warlock Chest Off: Extra Fusion grenade
Ruin Wings Exotic 36 Titan Gauntlets Off: More hvy ammo drops
Claws of Ahamkara Exotic 36 Warlock Gauntlets Off: Extra Scorch/Energy Drain
Don't Touch Me Exotic 36 Hunter Gauntlets Taking melee dmg makes you invisible
Mk. 44 Stand Asides Exotic 36 Titan Boots Off: More Shoulder Charge
Radiant Dance Machines Exotic 36 Hunter Boots Off: Move faster while ADS

I've marked "Off:" or "Def:" for if the armor is more offensive or defensively inclined based on it's perks.  I'm also making a guess that Exotic DLC armor will have max light of 36 - i.e., 3 higher than the DLC legendaries (like pre-DLC armor).

IF Crota's End raid works like Vault of Glass, one type of armor will be withheld for Hard Mode.  On VoG, you could only get the Raid Helmet by playing Hard Mode, so the easiest way to 30 was to have an Exotic Helmet instead and get the Normal Mode raid armor drops.  If that same mechanic continues, and if we look at the DLC Exotic offerings, we know that the HM armor can not be a Chest or Boots, because there aren't Exotics offered for all 3 classes.

What does this mean?  My *GUESS* is that a HM-only Crota's End drop is probably a Helmet or Gauntlets.  However, reddit data from players has shown Gauntlets dropping as loot in Normal Mode.  Nobody has reported receiving a Helmet yet.  That means if Xur is offering a helmet for your class, you should buy it.  It would appear that the CE HM-only drop will be a helmet again.

Clan night tonight. 9pm PT. Destiny.

If we have six at level, we'll most likely run Raid. If not, then Nightfall. The strike this week is Nexus, with Solar burn for Nightfall. The Nightfall pattern has been cracked:

Arc Sepiks, Void Phogoth, Solar Sekrion, Arc Valus, All Aksor, Void Sepiks, Arc Phogoth, Void Sekrion, None Valus, Arc Aksor

We are on the Solar Sekrion week. So many exotics to choose from: Ice Breaker, Pocket Infinity, Invective, Super Good Advice, Gjallarhorn, Vex Mythoclast

Destiny Relic Guide

Now that the whole clan is raiding regularly, everybody needs to be comfortable with the relic. Below is a great guide on how to use it. You can ignore the Templar portion, we cheese him instead of the traditional method. For Gatekeeper, we have been having the relic holder go into both gates, but we can try having the first relic go to the conflux.

--------

Reposted from reddit

Now, the raid relic is a special object that completely replaces your kit and applies the kit of the relic, lets go over the basics of this kit.
Grenade = Cleanse, this is 100% necessary during the atheon or gatekeepers because your team mates will go blind without this cleanse, during templar fight you must cleanse your team mates if you do not take out the oracles in time.
Melee = Dash attack, if you are the same level as harpies, then you will one shot them, otherwise avoid using this unless you need to fly back to the entrance of the time gate after picking up the relic, just jump and Spam Melee and you will be there without touching the floor and will save a lot of time
Shoot = Smash attack, deals significantly more damage and has a little bit of a longer charge up time than the Melee Dash attack, always use this against minotaurs and anything with a shield.
Jump + Shoot = Ground pound, this is probably my favourite ability in the entire game, just because of how fun it is to use. This allows you to deal a fairly large AOE attack which will deal the same amount of damage as your smash attack but will have much more recovery lag (yes I am a smash player), always use this if you are on the left time gate, the one that looks like a desert to kill the hobgoblins during the atheon fight.
Now, during the templar fight your job will be to take care of adds mostly and try to kill as many oracles as you can, many people would advise against you killing oracles but if you are the same level as them and reach them in time you can 1 shot them with your super or your smash attack which is very useful. Now, you have to build up your super which is why you are killing the harpies, this is very important as once your super is built up, warn your team and fire it at the templar because once this happens his shield will drop and your whole team will be detained if i am not mistaken, if you are detained just hit the detainment barrier with your smash attack and it will 1 shot it. then your team must completely shoot the shit out of Templar before he teleports and his shield comes back up. rinse and repeat until templar is dead.
Now, with the gate keeper phase as soon as you get the relic, one of the relic holders must go to the centre as if you are level 28 you can 2 shot the red health minotaurs that spawn in the centre with your smash attack, these spawn pretty consistently and should be dealt with immediately, i normally use the ground pound and then wait for them to drop, then use a regular smash attack and they will die.
With atheon, when dealing with the venus minotaur, make sure you ask your team to help you by killing the goblins, this is all that is necessary, drop in and ground pound him, jump back and dodge his melee, and then smash attack him, rinse and repeat until the minotaur is dead, then go and cleanse your team, you need to ask the oracle team to stay together or else they not be cleansed by your bubble.
in the mars portal, try to ground pound all 3 hobgoblins at the same time, make sure you get no help with this part because if their shield is activated it will just damage you 9 times out of 10 and you will probably die, with this part you just need quick reflexes, dodge the hobgoblin bullets if possible and 1 smash attack will kill one of them.
Once you have obtained times vengeance, everyone will jump in the middle and shoot up atheon, you will hold the cleanse button, make sure you are in the top right corner of the middle platform and make sure you do not move, this will make sure you do not get splash damage, make sure everyone is in your bubble shield and communicate with your team when 5 seconds of time vengeance is left to run out, rinse and repeat until atheon is dead.
Congratulations! you have now learnt how to use the relic, it is by far my favourite part of the raid, it just requires you to put the effort and practice, practice is very important in dealing with a lot of the relic holding bits.
Thank you for your time and have a wonderful morning/night/afternoon/whatever the fuck the time in your area :)

Very useful websites

There's some websites I go to almost daily:

  • bungie.net : You can view your Destiny character, gear, vault items, and even change equipped gear
  • destinypublicevents.com : See when the next Public Event is likely to happen on each planet - I like to have this in the snap pane so I can watch it update live
  • xboxclips.com : "Xbox Record That" clips show up here in real time
  • destinylfg.net and destinylfg.com : Places to find extra players for Strike or Raid in real time - this is basically manual matchmaking
  • destinystatus.com : Just discovered this today, show all three of your characters with their gear, marks, XP, rep, etc - Most useful is that it shows which characters have finished the weeklies, nightfall and raid.
For your convenience:
Gamertags with spaces appear to be problematic.

Clan night tonight. 9pm PT. Destiny.

Because of the holiday week, we may need to prioritize Raid on clan night.  If we have six at level, I'll probably us through a quick Raid for the first hour.  Otherwise, it will be Nightfalls and Weeklies as usual.  This week's strike is Phogoth, the Nightfall has Epic, Juggler, Angry, Void Burn, and Nightfall modifiers.  Heroic just has Angry, no burn.

Troubleshoot parties on Xbox One

Party problems?

Parties allow you to get together and chat with your friends through your Xbox One. You can do this with a single pal or up to seven friends. For information on how to start a party, see How to start a party on Xbox One.
If you’re having problems with an Xbox Live party, try the solutions below.

Solutions

Can’t turn on party chat

If you can’t join party chat on Xbox One, try the following solutions.
Solution 1: Have everyone in the party test their Xbox Live connection.
Someone in your party might have a Network Address Translation (NAT) problem. To find out, have everyone test their connection. Here’s how:
  1. Press the Xbox button to go to the Home screen.
  2. Press the Menu button on the controller.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Select Network.
Note If someone has a NAT indication in network settings, have your friend try the Xbox One Multiplayer Game Solution.
Solution 2: Restart your Xbox One console.
  1. Press the Xbox button to go to the Home screen.
  2. Press the Menu button on your controller.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Select Power & startup.
  5. Select Turn Xbox off.
  6. Restart your Xbox by pressing the Xbox button on the console.

Not hearing the other person after joining the party

If you’re not hearing the other person after joining their party, try these tips:
  • Check that your privacy settings allow communication with everyone.
  • Unmute or unblock the person you’re trying to chat with. To unmute, go to Party chat and do the following:
    1. Expand the party roster.
    2. Select the person that you want to unmute.
    3. Select Unmute.
  • Check that you have joined party chat from within the party window.

Getting echo when another person talks

If you’re getting a lot of echo and are using Kinect as the speech input device, you’ll want to run through Kinect calibration.
  1. Press the Xbox button to go to the Home screen.
  2. Press the Menu button on the controller.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Select Kinect.
  5. Select Kinect does not hear me.
  6. Follow the on-screen guide to recalibrate your Kinect.

Not recognized by Kinect when you talk

If you’re not seeing the green Kinect orb animate when you talk, you may have Kinect chat turned off. Connect your Xbox One Chat Headset or try these steps:
  1. Press the Xbox button to go to the Home screen.
  2. Press the Menu button on the controller.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Select Kinect.
  5. Select Use Kinect microphone for chat.
Note This is a system-wide setting, so turning it on here enables the Kinect microphone for games, Skype, and party chat.

Party chat audio comes out of TV despite having a chat headset connected

If you’re hearing party chat through your TV speakers even after connecting a chat headset, you may need to re-associate your controller with your profile. Simply follow these steps:
  1. Press the Xbox button to go to the Home screen.
  2. Select your gamerpic in the upper-left corner of the screen.
  3. Locate your profile and select Choose this person.

Frequently disconnected from Xbox Live

If you’re frequently disconnected from Xbox Live, try the Xbox One Disconnect Solution.

Xbox Live game play is slow

If Xbox Live party game play is slow, try the Xbox One Slow Performance Solution.

Clan night daily schedules

Clan members have hit an inflection point where folks are running multiple mains in Destiny.  To meet the needs of Raid as well as lower level characters, we'll focus on specific things centered around the weekly schedule (start time always at 9pm US PT):

  • Tuesdays: Weekly Nightfall Strike - Min 25, recommended level 28
  • Wednesdays: Vault of Glass Raid, Normal Mode - Min 26, rec 28
  • Thursdays: Vault of Glass Raid, Normal Mode - Min 26, rec 28
  • Fridays: Weekly Heroic Strike
  • Saturdays: Player's Choice - May include Halo MCC
  • Sundays: Fireteam Patrol, Vanguard Strike Playlist, Tiger - Min 21, rec 24
  • Mondays: Player's Choice - May include Halo MCC
Activities like Daily Heroic Story, Daily Public Events, Crucible, Farming (Vanguard reputation, materials, bounties, etc) will be interspersed as time allows.

Halo Master Chief Collection has been released.  On days where Destiny needs are light and players are interested, we can add that into the rotation.

Weekly reset! This week's strike is Valus Ta'aurc, no elemental burn (surprisingly). I'm willing to run the Nightfall and Weekly Heroic up to 3 times each.

Just like last week, we will probably have some new players with us, so join the XBL
chat party first and I will matchmake based on player level.  Weekly and Nightfall is Nexus with Void burn. For
players level 26 and higher, Nightfall Strike will likely be the
priority to set the XP bonus for the week.  Those on at 9pm will get sent into games right away.

Vault of Glass

We are preparing to raid the Vault of Glass.  The best guide I've read so far is posted to playstationtrophies.org.  Below is a quick read that's much easier to digest, reposted from reddit:

There are some amazing guides and videos out there for VoG. I was pretty worried on my first attempt and didn't want to be the one to wipe the group, so I read up a lot about all of the fights. In addition, our raid leader would explain the fight for 10 minutes before the entrance, templar and Aetheon fights.
The problem was that it was just information overload. The fights are fairly complex, so going over every detail without context is a recipe for forgetting. I encourage people to do their homework, but would like to give a more broad overview to some of the fights if you don't want to spend a lot of time diving into every detail. If you're running with a PuG that is experienced, you don't need to know all the nitty gritty details. If you are running with a team for the first time, i'd suggest reading some more detailed guides out there since you're most likely a bit undergeared as a team.
I ran this with a pug last night that was fairly experienced, and no one worried about positioning or anything. Everyone knew what to do, saw the holes and filled them and we cleared it in an hour with no wipes. If you have the general overview of what needs to be done, that's enough.
This overview won't go over being the relic holder. I'm assuming if it's your first time you won't be responsible for this duty.
Entrance
There's 3 confuxes you need to gaurd, so groups of 2 make sense- you need to defend them and not allow any vex onto the sync plates. Kill shit. The Praetorians are the toughest, so use a void fusion rifle and call your partner for help if you see one.
Templar Phase 1
Stuff comes out left middle and right. Same as entrance, kill stuff. If you kill a mob and there's a green puddle on the ground, don't step on it. If you step on it, go into the middle (down the ramp), and there's a big shiny light. Get on it to cleanse yourself and GTFO since vex spawn there.
Templar Phase 2
Oracles spawn. They look like big orange lights...just kill them quick. Oracles should take priority over everything. Also kill hobgoblins sniping you. Fuck hobgoblins
Templar Phase 3
You actually fight the templar now. He has a big shield, so don't bother shooting him until the shield is down. Your relic holder will call out on the mic when he is going to blast the templar to bring his shield down, once he does this, focus fire the templar. Stay alive, focus templar when shield is down.
When the shield gets broken, do not move. He will potentially cast a shield around you, and you have to fire at the shield to break it. You die if you try to walk through it. You can generally just start firing from a stationary position right when his shield is going down. You'll either hit him, or break the shield first thing...either way you're safe if you don't move.
Rinse and Repeat. That's really all there is to the boss fight.
There's a cheap way to beat templar as well from a hobgoblin floating column. I won't get into it, since if you're doing it you can just follow your team.
Aetheon Phase 1
Kill everything, then kill the gatekeeper
Aetheon Phase 2
After you down the gatekeeper, vex will start spawning behind you. This is where you will be divided into the outside group, or the inside group.
Outside group opens up one of the portals by stepping inside the sync plate and kills the stuff spawning. These sync plates are located below the portals toward the entrance (small raised column). Their goal is to guard that plate and not let any vex on it (just like the entrance). If you are in this group, just kill everything outside and guard that plate.
Inside group will go through the portal, kill everything, including a gatekeeper, and someone will grab a relic. If you're on the inside, once the gatekeeper is down, you will get cursed. Just chill out and wait for the relic holder to cleanse you. You have to be close so stay with him.
Once the relic is retrieved, you go out the portal and move to the other portal to do the same thing.
Outside group: When the inside team leaves the first portal, your job gets a bit more difficult. You need to defend the same sync plate on the opposite side, but a conflux appears in the middle which you have to defend as well. Split your resources and guard both. You'll either be guarding mid, or the new sync plate.
Inside group repeats the same thing in the 2nd portal and when they come out, EVERYONE get to the middle conflux and defend.
Congrats you just beat phase 2, arguably the hardest phase. You'll get loot and have down time.
Aetheon Phase 3
Aetheon will teleport the 3 farthest people, so you will be one of groups. Teleported group, nor not teleported group. You will decide on this before the fight begins.
Not getting teleported: Hang around the portals and kill harpies. When the teleported group gets in, they will tell you which side they are on. You'll need to open the portal for them (stand in plate). Kill stuff and try to stay on top of columns. The harpies are suicide bombers.
Getting teleported: You'll hang around the back until you get teleported. Run to the stairs, and chuck a grenade down. The relic holder will go down and mop up the few mobs. You just chill, you're going to wait for oracles to spawn. The first spawns above you, and their spawns get closer and closer to the exit portal. Shoot those bitches and move to the exit. YOUR JOB IS TO KILL ORACLES WHILE MOVING TOWARDS THE PORTAL
Upon exit everyone gets a buff from the inside team killing the last oracle. Everyone jumps to the middle platform (between the 2 portals). The relic holder will put up a shield that protects you from the outside. DPS the boss down while you have this buff. When the buff ends (there's a timer), it's important the same 3 get teleported. At the 3 second mark of the timer, either jump to the back so you get teleported (if you're in that group), or jump to the left or right and find cover while killing more harpies.
Repeat after the teleport.

All 20 Exotic weapons currently in-game, organized by type

Reposted from reddit:

I'm not going to make any recommendations, because all the Exotics are pretty awesome.  I'm planning to focus on collecting the Snipers and Rockets first.  There's no reason not to have them all, because you have to pick damage types based on mission anyway.  It'd also be awesome to get that Vex Mythoclast to have a primary with elemental damage, but it requires beating the Raid on Hard.  That's probably a long ways away...

PRIMARY[4]

AUTO RIFLES
Name Type Strength Weakness Main Feature(s)
Hard Light[5] Kinetic Equip/Reload Impact Shots penetrate and ricochet on hard surfaces.
Monte Carlo[6] Kinetic Range Stability Dealing damage reduces melee cooldown.
SUROS Regime[7] Kinetic Balanced Rate of Fire Bottom half of clips deals bonus damage and may heal you.
Hard Light has lots of potential to cut through crowds. Monte Carlo* has good range for an Auto Rifle, and fantastic for maximizing melee output. The SUROS Regime is "that Auto Rifle" recently sold[8] by Xûr. To put it lightly, it has "enhanced" recent PVP matches. With its high-impact health-stealing and overall lack of weakness, it has continued to push the PVP meta to Auto Rifles. Keep an eye on the upcoming AR tweaks![9]

FUSION RIFLES
Name Type Strength Weakness Main Feature(s)
Vex Mythoclast[10] Solar Charge Time N/A Has no Charge Time.
The Vex Mythoclast is an extremely potent weapon. Generally considered Destiny's most overpowered weapon in PVP, it's a possible drop for beating the Vault of Glass on Hard. A truly fitting reward. This weapon could see some nerfs, or perhaps Bungie's taking the "if everything's overpowered, nothing is!" approach.

HAND CANNONS
Name Type Strength Weakness Main Feature(s)
Hawkmoon[11] Kinetic Impact Rate of Fire 2-3 random shots in clip deal "considerable" bonus damage.
The Last Word[12] Kinetic Impact Stability Can be shot incredibly fast. Great from-the-hip precision.
Thorn[13] Kinetic Impact Stability Shots penetrate and deal damage-over-time (no stacking).
Hawkmoon is strong overall with potential two-shots. For some Guardians, the unreliable main feature will be a big negative. The Last Word is very capable due to its Rate of Fire, although its animations may be distracting. Thorn's damage over time can be very strategic, forcing PVP targets to take cover. It's not especially strong for direct engagements, so Bungie is preparing a buff. Compared to Exotics of other types, the Hand Cannons don't stand out quite as much as they could.

PULSE RIFLES
Name Type Strength Weakness Main Feature(s)
Bad Juju[14] Kinetic Rate of Fire Impact Kills briefly enable instant reloads and a small damage buff.
Red Death[15] Kinetic Impact Rate of Fire Each kill heals you and speeds up reloads.
On paper, Bad Juju has lots of potential due to full-auto fire and post-kill instant reloads / extra damage. In-game it falls a bit short, and is also the target of an upcoming buff[16] . Red Death, simply put, is strong and balanced. The healing and quick reload after kills, plus better aim under fire, is icing on the blood-spattered cake.

SCOUT RIFLES
Name Type Strength Weakness Main Feature(s)
MIDA Multi-Tool[17] Kinetic Reload N/A Boosts movement. Fires on a hair trigger. Radar active in-aim.
While some complain that the MIDA Multi-Tool isn't as flashy as other Exotics, it's a very well-balanced weapon. Rumors circulate that the side-radar has a hidden purpose. Hmmm...

SHOTGUNS
Name Type Strength Weakness Main Feature(s)
Universal Remote[18] Kinetic Stability Range Aiming greatly increases range and precision damage.
What is this weapon? A short-range Special weapon becomes a long-range Primary? In any case, the Universal Remote is a versatile weapon that warrants plenty of use. It may also survive the upcoming nerfs to Shotguns reasonably unscathed.

SPECIAL[19]

FUSION RIFLES
Name Type Strength Weakness Main Feature(s)
Plan C[20] Arc Impact Charge Rate Charge/equip time is very fast after weapon swap.
Pocket Infinity[21] Solar Impact Charge Rate Fires in full-auto. Missed rounds may return to clip.
Pocket Infinity is terrifying. After charging, it unleashes a never-ending firestorm. Incredibly useful for a huge crowd or targets you want really dead. Plan C is a bit different. Using your Primary weapon? Things not going your way? That's where the well-balanced Plan C shines. Swap, charge, and blast 'em away before they know what happened. Plan C's main benefit seems directed toward PVP or players who panic easily.

SHOTGUNS
Name Type Strength Weakness Main Feature(s)
Invective[22] Solar Rate of Fire Reload Can be fired in full-auto. Regenerates ammo.
Invective lacks Impact, but completely makes up for it with a fast-firing bulletstorm. Ammo regeneration is nice, but somehow feels a little slow at 4 shells per 30 seconds. You'll have plenty of time for its slow reload once the whole room is dead.

SNIPER RIFLES
Name Type Strength Weakness Main Feature(s)
Ice Breaker[23] Solar Range Stability Kills explode. Regenerates ammo into 6-shot clip (can't reload).
Patience and Time[24] Arc Stability Clip Size (4) Active radar and temporary invisibility while aiming.
Don't want to be anywhere near your targets? Ice Breaker is just for you. Notable for its maximum range and exploding kills, you'll be happily popping crowds from a distance. The regenerating ammo is a boon and a curse, with a new shot added to the clip every 6 seconds. Patience and Time features a lot of great traits for a Sniper Rifle like high Stability and an active radar while aiming. The brief invisibility is neat, but not as helpful as you'd hope: the very-visible red sniper glare doesn't disappear.

HEAVY[25]

MACHINE GUNS
Name Type Strength Weakness Main Feature(s)
Super Good Advice[26] Solar Rate of Fire Impact Almost all missed shots are returned to the magazine.
Thunderlord[27] Arc Impact Rate of Fire Increased Rate of Fire and accuracy the longer it's fired.
Super Good Advice is a room-shredder. Spray the general direction of your target and don't worry about wasting precious ammo. Thunderlord is incredibly balanced, shooting faster and more accurately the longer you fire. SGA seems better for PVP (ammo conservation), while Thunderlord could help with precision damage on tanky targets in PVE (longer firing).

ROCKET LAUNCHERS
Name Type Strength Weakness Main Feature(s)
Gjallarhorn[28] Solar Velocity Rate of Fire Rockets split into a cluster of target-tracking missiles on impact.
Truth[29] Void Blast Radius Rate of Fire Aggressive target-tracking.
Gjallarhorn has to be one of Destiny's most satisfying weapons. The main rocket has tracking, and bursts into a cloud of tracking missiles. What's not to love? The low Rate of Fire is easily forgivable. Truth, the only Exotic with Void damage, has even more aggressive tracking than Gjallarhorn – and includes proximity detonation. After seeing it in-action[30] , we've come to a conclusion: everything in Destiny is a finely-crafted tool of pain.

Destiny Gametypes - The Whole Point of the Game

Why do we have level requirements for clan night now?  Because you need to be leveled up to play the game.  This is the game progression:

  • Story Mission (Levels 2-18): 1-3 player fireteams, friends only.  This is the tutorial for the game, that teaches you the basic game mechanics over about 6-10 hours of gameplay, and unlocks all the planets.  They are easy to complete alone and generate XP so that you can unlock the next story mission.
  • Crucible (Levels 5+): 1-6 player fireteams, matchmaking available.  PvP game mode unlocked when a player's first character reaches level 5.  Bada Bing as a clan does not participate in Crucible, the reader is left to research it on their own if they are interested.
  • Strike Mission (Levels 8-18): 1-3 player fireteams, friends only.  These are boss battles, moderately hard alone or fairly easy with a fireteam, earn new armor and generate XP.
  • Patrol (Levels 4-11): 1-3 player fireteams, friends only.  These allow you to roam free, pick up patrols, complete bounties, participate in public events, and find resources.  This game mode does not generate any rewards by itself, the rewards come from things you add to it.

Once you reach level 20, the actual game begins.   You may go back to the above activities to finish a task or get some materials, but those become sidejobs to fuel the main game.
  • Public Events (Levels 4-11): May be solo'd, done with fireteams, or with any number of random players in your instance.  They are fairly easy with other people, and earn you XP, rare materials, currency.
  • Vanguard Strike Playlist (Levels 18-24): Matchmaking available, can also be done with fireteams.  There are 4 levels to choose from, so they are as hard as you want to make them.  Earn Rare Gear, Marks, Rep.
  • Daily Heroic Story Mission (Levels 20-28): 1-3 player fireteams, friends only.  Very easy if you are at or above the recommended level.  Earn Vanguard marks, XP.
  • Weekly Heroic Strike (Levels 22-28):  1-3 player fireteams, friends only.  Can be moderately hard, most people read an guide on the internet that makes the strike easier with an exploit.  Earn Strange Coin, Vanguard Marks, Vanguard Rep.
Once you reach level 24, you get to participate in the End Game "special events."  These are limited time activities or are extra challenging.
  • Queen's Wrath (Level 24):  1-3 player fireteams, friends only.  This is a limited time event that only runs for 2 weeks.  It's fairly easy with a fireteam, earn Legendary Armor and Rare Weapons.
  • Raid (Level 26): 6 player fireteams, friends only.  This is a limited time event, and is very difficult.  Even though it states level 26, the recommended level is 28.  Requires good players and excellent coordination.  Earns Legendary+ Gear, Ascendant Mats.
  • Weekly Nightfall Strike (Level 28):  1-3 player fireteams, friends only.  This is the same strike as the Weekly Heroic, but with additional modifiers that make it much more difficult - like no saved checkpoints if your team wipes, you have to start all over again.  Considered fairly difficult, earns XP boost, unspecified higher level rewards.
As of this week, Bada Bing now has 3 players that can participate in all the end game content.  However, you'll notice that most of the game modes do not have matchmaking.  We can't just have the game assign us a random person if we're short a fireteam.  That means if you aren't up to level on clan night, you are holding a spot we could fill with somebody who is, and you are preventing everybody else from playing the game.

Clan night on October 14 will have a minimum level requirement of at least 21.  Expect that bar to move up each week.

Clan night tonight. 9pm PT. Destiny.

Notice: This will be the last week that we will have "open" clan night. I'll be off next week, but starting in 2 weeks clan night will have minimum level requirements. I hate to be exclusionary, but the way Destiny is designed - the game is not playable unless you have leveled up. If you aren't within 3 levels of the top player you're partied with, you can't play the game.

If you'd like to continue playing Destiny on clan nights, please put the time in and level up your character. I am more than happy to help folks level up during the week. I am on almost every night.

Current clan standings:
- gtdroptop: lvl28 - 85 hrs played
- OmniscientDeath: lvl26 - 68hrs
- CoolerSopranos2: lvl27 - 51hrs
- Beer4Porter: lvl18 - 12hrs
- o DeadEye o: lvl5 - 2hrs

Queen's Wrath

The Queen's Wrath limited-time event is running now through October 6 (two weeks only).  Here's what you need to know:

  • There are six purple bounties available per day from the Bounty Tracker - 4 are PVE, 2 are PVP
  • Finishing a purple bounty unlocks a lvl24 story mission with the Epic modifier (no auto-respawn, must be revived by teammates) and two random additional modifiers
    • This means you must be at LEAST lvl21 to even play the story missions, but recommended to be lvl24 or higher
    • We saw ammo restriction (less ammo drops) and solar damage modifiers - means solar weapons from both good and bad guys do 3X the damage as normal : 2,422 crit damage from solar sniper, or 1-shot deaths from Hobgoblins
  • Completing the story mission results in a guaranteed Legendary purple armor piece - either a helmet or a chest piece
    • It's random if you get helmet or chest armor
    • You can do all six bounties each day to get six armor pieces
    • There's only one specific helmet and one specific chest you can get, so you can dismantle the duplicates for mats (materials)
  • Completing the bounties and missions gains you rep with the Queen's faction, you need to level up rep to get to the items, weapons and armor that the Queen's emissary will sell to you
It took us about 2 hours to knock out 3 bounties and missions - so it's probably 4-5 hours to do them all.  Plan accordingly.
  • It's a minimum of 2 days to reach level 1 rep if you do all 6 purple bounties - At our pace, it will take 4 days at 3 bounties a day
  • Min 5 days to reach level 2 rep for Queen's weapons and armor - 10 days at our pace
  • Min 10 days to reach level 3 rep for exclusive shader and emblem - Unreachable at our pace

How Levels affect your gameplay and WHY they're are so important

reposted from reddit

It's very simple, you do less damage and take more damage from monsters that are higher level than you. That is why it's important that you're at least lvl 28 when doing the raid, since the mobs are lvl 28, you will do less damage to them if you are below lvl 28
here's a very simple test I conducted (my guardian is lvl 28):

  1. Buy or obtain white/green/blues so you can change your light level (in this case I had gear where I could change my level to 21, 23, 24, and 28)
  2. Do any story mode at lvl 24 heroic (note, the mobs are lvl 24)
  3. equip your gear so you're lvl 28, take ONE shot at a mob and note the dmg (383 with a legendary lvl 20 hand cannon in my case to an acolyte)
  4. equip gear so you're lvl 21, take ONE shot at the same type of mob with the same weapon (I did 184)
  5. equip gear so you're lvl 23, take ONE shot at the same type of mob with the same weapon (I did 261)
  6. equip gear so you're lvl 24 (same lvl as the mob) take ONE shot at the same type of mob with the same weapon (I did 383)
final results doing damage with the same EXACT weapon at the same TYPE OF MOB (lvl 24 acolyte) by just changing my light level
  • Light 21: 184 dmg
  • Light 23: 261 dmg
  • Light 24: 383 dmg
  • Light 26: 383 dmg
  • Light 28: 383 dmg

as you can see, your damage SCALES DOWN TO THAT OF THE ENEMY if you're higher lvl than it (that's why your bullet damage text is grey) and you do reduced damage if you're not the level of your enemy (the same goes for your armor, it scales down to your enemy and you'd take the same damage at lvl 28 as you would lvl 20 from a lvl 4 mob on earth, this is harder to test but trust me, I've done some visual tests and confirmed it)

you can only do damage to mobs that are no higher than 3 lvls above you and you take a penalty in damage for it (that's why you can't even choose a lvl 28 mission if you're lower than lvl 25, you wouldn't do any damage)
  • 4 lvl or lower below mob: 100% damage penalty
  • 3 lvl below mob: ~52% damage penalty
  • 2 lvl below mob: ~42% damage penalty (guesstimate since I didn't have the gear to put me to lvl 22)
  • 1 lvl below mob: ~32% damage penalty
  • 0 lvl below or higher than mob: 0% damage penalty

TL:DR your light levels affect BOTH your damage output and how much damage you take only UP TO the level of the mobs (i.e. if you're lvl 28, you'll do the same damage and take the same amount of damage from lvl 20 mobs as you would from lvl 24 mobs, there is ZERO difference)

so in conclusion that is why it's so important to be at least lvl 28 in raids and as I stated in my original post[2] , lvl 20 bounties would be EXACTLY the same as lvl 4 bounties from earth... there is no difference (as long as you're lvl 20+)
this is also why those lvl 24 strike playlists used to be hard at lvl 22, but aren't anymore at lvl 24+, it's because not only are you taking less damage (capped at what you were taking at lvl 24) but you're also doing more damage even though you're using the same exact weapon
this is also why you die as fast doing earth lvl 4 missions as you do doing lvl 18 mars missions even though you're lvl 28 with 1400+ armor, it doesn't matter up to the level of the mobs
