Clan night attendance

Since moving to Wednesdays, we have had 2 of 5 clan nights where nobody showed up.  Octurian Pewn, the reason we moved to Wednesdays at 8pm PT, has missed 3 of the last 4 clan nights.  Wednesdays have been the poorest attended clan nights, averaging only 3 players per week and an overall average 29% attendance rate.

I want clan nights to be fun for the clan.  It's not fun when people don't show up.  Should we move to a system where people sign up each week?  Should it be a different day?  Should we cancel clan nights until X1 launches?

No Clan Night Tonight

I'll be in Tahoe.  That said though, the Majestic Map Pack has been released.  Given how much we played the Crimson Map Pack, I can't mandate this for the entire clan.  OD and I will download it for sure, and it brings a bunch of new 4v4 maps (for Poon and Norpo), but it will likely not see large clan play.

Clan night stats

Posted by request.  Click for huge.

Of note: OmniscientDeath went 21-32 for a K/D of -11 last week when matchmaking put him on the other team.  He went 97-30 this week in games on Exile when gunning in the Gauss Hog for a K/D of +67 with 68 Gauss Cannon kills.  gtdroptop was -17 in those games with a combined 72 assists as driver to enable those stats.

Octurian Pewn had a very impressive showing this week, green across the board.  Kudos to Mean Mrs Monkey for a non-negative game on Ragnorak.  Jests go out to darknorpo for somehow turning in a -12 performance on Exile when he couldn't get in his Banshee.

H4: Specializations Part 2

We've discussed Armor Specializations before, but here's my quick cut:

  • Wetworks: If you love assassinations and creeping around. (FragginURdoodz, TimMAY1023)
  • Pioneer: If you want to level up as fast as possible. (CoolerSopranos2, UnsavorySamurai)
  • Engineer: If you want to help the team coordinate special ordinance drops. (Beer4Porter)
  • Tracker: If you love special weapons. (FishBone10, Masher 24)
  • Rogue: If you spend a lot of time scoped in (Sniper, DMR, BR). (gtdroptop, Octurian Poon)
  • Stalker: If you get fixated on killing one person. (darknorpo, QuelBelle)
  • Pathfinder: If you're always in the gunner seat (OmniscientDeath, MEAN MR MONKEY)
  • Operator: If you're always driving (BeerMonkeee, Mean Mrs Monkey)
Picking your Specialization is important because you can't change it until you've fully leveled it up.  There are 8 choices in total, with Pioneer and Wetwork being available to all players at launch.  Purchasing the Halo 4 Limited Edition gets you access to all 8 right away.  Those who pre-order and play by November 20, will get all 8 quicker as well, but probably not until 11/20 (about 2 weeks after launch).

Clan night tonight. 9pm PT. Left for Dead 2.

There was a request for some brain on brain action, and it seems like interest in Halo has waned.  ZOMBIES TONIGHT.

Clan night tonight. 9pm PT. Halo Reach.

I'm actually out of the country for the next two weeks, but we had good attendance for the last Halo night.  And Porter wants to play.  I trust you kids can self-organize.  And I think Pewn has the Jenga gametype and maps.

Clan Night Postmortem

Halo Charts has a new Game Aggregator tool that produces some pretty interesting data.  Thought I would share some highlights from clan night last night.  Below is some key stats from our Slayer games (objective games excluded).  Numbers will obviously be tilted slightly for people who were helping the clan while on the other team...

A Monument to All Your Sins

One of the most difficult (or tedious) achievements to get in Halo Reach is "A Monument to All Your Sins," awarded for finishing the entire campaign on Legendary, solo.  Congratulations to Octurian Poon and CoolerSopranos2 for accomplishing this impressive feat!

See the chart for some comparison of Campaign data, click for huge.  Winter Contingency continues to be the easiest level, and The Pillar of Autumn continues to be the hardest.  Interestingly, on Solo, Long Night of Solace has bubbled up to be the second hardest level of them all, but also the highest scoring.  If you notify when you finish Legendary Solo, I'll be happy to compile your stats as well.

HR: Player Profiles - Octurian Poon

Player: Octurian Poon
  • Rank: Corporal Grade 1
  • Games: 48; Kills: 444; Deaths: 534; Assists: 219; Time: 0:07:09; Wins: 25; Medals: 559
  • Win %: 52%; K/D: 0.83; K/G: 9.25; D/G: 11.13; A/G: 4.56; M/G: 11.65; Encounters/G: 25.77
Bombadier Frontline Support, Needler Specialist. As opposed to Run and Gun types, Octurian Poon is a Bombadier using AR and frag grenades the most, which points to a propensity to hang further back in battle without relying so much on melee.  Seeks out the Needler, when available.  Has high overall Assist stats, as well as leading the clan in several stat categories for Invasion.

Best suited: Short to medium slayer, providing assists and kill support to team mates on the front lines.

Recommend: Consider learning to use the Needle Rifle.  Although it doesn't track targets like the Needler, it has both automatic fire and combine kill features which will allow for a transition period from the Needler.  Additionally, it has DMR characteristics like being headshot-capable, having extended range, and being able to zoom in.  For Bombadier types that like to hang back a little bit, the Needle Rifle may be a better tool.
